Our Story

Unite block logo.png

Unite is a nonprofit organization formed to create a solution for north state students and teachers in the absence of the long-running tradition of environmental camp for 5th and 6th-grade students.  After the devastating CARR fire, our community was left with few options to provide an experiential learning experience for our students.

It is our goal to Unite Redding and our schools behind the belief that outdoor education is an important part of our students' educational experience.

The UNITE CAMPS Outdoor School Program provides innovative and collaborative leadership which enables students to learn science and interpersonal skills in a fun and active outdoor setting.

Redding is surrounded by beauty with an abundance of natural resources within a short drive.  Students will benefit from the outdoor classroom that surrounds them.

In partnership with school districts, Unite is providing a residential outdoor experience-based program with an emphasis on the following areas:

      1. Through experiential learning, students will be involved in activities that meet California's educational science standards.

     2. Students will spend a significant amount of time developing 21st-century skills: collaboration, critical thinking,  problem-solving, and communication.

     3. Students and teachers will have a meaningful and enriching experience. We believe there is something special about getting away from routine and being out in nature.

Jeff Breshears

Both Redding natives, Scott and Jeff are raising their children here and are invested in the community.  Scott has coached basketball at the high school level in local schools.  Jeff has worked with students for over 20 years.  They are the organizers behind the annual Redding 3on3 Basketball Tournament held at the Civic in June.  Both have worked as camp directors for the last 12 years.  They have administrated and provided programming for the Enterprise School District's WEB Leadership Camp as well as Unite's Outdoor school.  The camp experience brings people together, helps them appreciate nature, and creates memories that last a lifetime.  Unite is excited to be hosting outdoor education camps for Shasta County students.
